Do you ladies clean your makeup brushes often… or at all?
Even if you are washing your face daily, you could be putting days, weeks, or months of dirt and germs back onto your clean face and into your pores by using the same old dirty makeup brush. Yeah, gross!!
We should be cleaning our makeup brushes AT LEAST once a month. I aim for once a week. Once, I started cleaning my brushes more often, I noticed a huge difference with my skin… brighter and clearer, and the little makeup I do wear, overall looks better because the brushes are not caked with old junk.
Even if your skin is clean, your brushes are collecting oil, bacteria, germs, dead skin, dust, dirt, and old makeup. These all have a nice, cozy home in your brushes. Each use of your brush, you are wiping oil and dead skin around your face, clogging your pores, causing potential zits, and irritating your skin.
Some studies show that dirty brushes can even spread herpes and cause fungal infections, inflammation, and allergies.
Bottom line… CLEAN YOUR BRUSHES, LADIES!
You can easily clean your brushes at home with an inexpensive, quick, and chemical free way. Once you see all that gunk come off your brushes, you’ll be so happy you did it and want to clean them daily (but once a week is sufficient).
The Ultimate Make-Up Brush Cleaner
Ingredients:
- 2 parts Mild Castile Soap (Dr. Bronner, Dr. Wood, or any other mild castile soap)
- 1 part pure Jojoba oil
To clean four brushes (small and medium), 4 tablespoons of soap and 2 tablespoons of oil works well. A little goes a long way with soap and oil.
Jojoba oil has anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, and antioxidant properties.
Method:
- Mix the two ingredients together in a bowl.
- With your fingers, rub your brush bristles with the mixture until all the gunk comes off.
- Rinse the brushes under the faucet until it’s no longer filled with makeup and soap.
- Squeeze the excess water gently and pat dry with a clean paper towel.
- Air dry standing up straight with the brush head on the counter and a paper towel underneath.
